She hadn\u2019t started her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/real-estate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">real estate<\/a> business there yet, and she was lonely \u2014 so to meet new people, she decided to throw a holiday party and invite anyone she could.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would literally go to the coffee shop and see moms with their kids and say, \u2018I just moved here. Would you be interested in coming to our holiday party?\u201d Dillard said. \u201cI had parents with kids, owners of the local businesses, whoever I could get to come to our party, and it ended up being such an amazing gathering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That first party led Dillard to meeting some of her first friends in the area, and some of her first real estate clients, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom there, I realized that all I had to do to make friends and grow my business was pour into the community and just be myself,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dillard\u2019s first holiday party had about 15 people in attendance. Now it\u2019s become a staple of her business, with people looking forward to it and between 75 to 100 people attending each year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are Dillard\u2019s 5 tips for hosting events in your community to help build your business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-extend-a-personal-invite\">1. <strong>Extend a personal invite<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as Dillard did for her first holiday party, it doesn\u2019t hurt to invite anyone and everyone, depending on how many people you want to attend your event. And there are a variety of ways to extend an invitation, from email to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/social-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media<\/a> to a personal phone call.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPicking up the phone and calling and inviting people is really great. If they\u2019re your personal clients and you want them to be there, pick up the phone and call them,\u201d she said. \u201cSending an email out to your database is fantastic, posting about it on social media is a great way to reach [a lot of] people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want your event to be small and intimate, it\u2019s best to avoid advertising it on social media \u2014 but if you want it to be bigger, that\u2019s a great option.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-build-your-database\">2. <strong>Build your database<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These events can serve as a direct way to build your database of contacts. Dillard said that guests have to provide their contact information as their \u201cticket\u201d to get into her events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not going to spam people and be obnoxious with it, it\u2019s just so we can keep them top of mind,\u201d she said. \u201cWe get their email address, phone number and name, and they are entered into our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingwire.com\/tag\/crm\/\">CRM<\/a>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-don-t-ask-for-business\">3. <strong>Don\u2019t ask for business<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At these events, the main goal is not to do business on the spot \u2014 it\u2019s to build relationships within your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just like any other lead source, but this one\u2019s more personal, friendly and engaging,\u201d Dillard said. \u201cYou&#8217;re actually with people in your community and they\u2019re seeing your face, remembering that you\u2019re in real estate and then when they think about real estate, they think about you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She doesn\u2019t brand anything that she gives out at these events \u2014 like candy at Fourth of July parades, for example \u2014 but she does hand out cards with contact information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s no pressure or obligation,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting business from hosting events can take time, but getting your face in front of community members is a good first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSometimes you\u2019re at an event and people will say, \u2018Hey, I\u2019ve been thinking about selling my home.\u2019 And then that happens quickly,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-send-thank-yous\">4. <strong>Send thank-yous<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After each event, Dillard and her team use the contact information they gather from guests to send a follow-up to thank them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey took the time out of their day to come to our event, so we want to thank them for their time,\u201d she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of these notes, there\u2019s a blurb at the bottom asking for a review.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlong with all the real estate reviews on what a great Realtor you are, it\u2019s great to also have that you are a member of the community, that you give back to the community, that you care about the community,\u201d she said. \u201cThose are really important characteristics, as well.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-post-about-the-event-afterward\">5. <strong>Post about the event afterward&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Posting about an event afterward \u2014 for example, sharing a highlight reel on social media \u2014 can stir up the \u201cfear of missing out\u201d and drive people to attend the next one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI get so many messages afterward like, \u2018Darn it, I\u2019m so mad I missed it\u2026Put me on your email blast, let me know when the next one is,\u2019\u201d Dillard said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And those new attendees mean more contacts for your database, new potential clients and the possibility of word-of-mouth widening your sphere of influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re telling people that they had so much fun at your event \u2014 \u2018What\u2019s the event for?\u2019 \u2018Oh, well, she\u2019s a Realtor, but she does these great events for the community,\u2019\u201d Dillard said. \u201cIt is the gift that keeps on giving.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting business from hosting events can take time, but getting your face in front of community members is a good first step.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":661,"featured_media":420732,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[42023,1681],"tags":[2100,42135],"coauthors":[42105],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.5 (Yoast SEO v21.7) -
